Folkfest to Benefit Creative Clay

ST. PETERSBURG- Creative Clay Cultural Arts Center, Inc., announces Folkfest St. Pete 2012 on October 6 and 7 at Albert Whitted Park, 107 8th Ave. SE, St. Petersburg. This new location for Folkfest St. Pete is on the beautiful waterfront of downtown St. Petersburg. Gates open at 11 a.m. both days.

Folkfest St. Pete is a fundraiser for the non-profit Creative Clay, which makes the arts accessible for local artists with disabilities, as well as people in healthcare settings, and provides them with the opportunity for expressive, educational, and vocational arts experiences.

Folkfest St. Pete attracts some of the Southeast’s best folk artists and musicians. A $5.00 donation at the gate and an offering of non-perishable food to benefit the St. Petersburg Free Clinic is requested. Lawn chairs and blankets are permitted.

Live music will be played Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This year’s lineup includes: alternative country rockers “Antigone Rising,” “Applebuter Express,” Orlando’s Beth McKee, Sarasota’s “Passerine,” “Geri X,”  “Between Bluffs,” and “A Fragile Tomorrow,” who returns for their fourth year. There also will be local performers, including
St. Petersburg’s Royal Theatre Studio Singers, “Rebekah Pulley and the Reluctant Prophets,” Jayne Kelli and A.J. Swearingen, “The Sunset Bridge Band,” Amber Lynn Nicol and The Swingin’ Papas, Jun Bustamante, and blues guitarist Jeremiah Hutchinson.

A craft beer tent with 100 percent local breweries, food vendors offering healthy options, and unique food trucks will have items for purchase. Families with kids will have a chance to explore their artistic side in the family area, including a rock-climbing wall sponsored by Pathfinder Inc.  There also is a playground on site.

Folkfest St. Pete 2012 also offers an Artist Invitational, wherein local artists will create portraits of Creative Clay’s member artists, which will help connect festival-goers to Creative Clay and raise awareness of its mission.

VIP passes are available for $50 each at the gate or online at www.folkfeststpete.org or www.creativeclay.org. Passes include prime seating for musical acts, drink tickets, discounts on beer/sangria purchases and VIP designated restrooms. VIP passes are considered a donation and are tax-deductible.
