Gulfport Consent Agenda

Q: Why does council need to vote on moving an item off the consent agenda?

A: Although many cities have policies stating that if any member of the council (or commission) wants to discuss an item on the consent agenda, the item gets placed on the regular agenda (where, unlike the consent agenda, it can get discussed), Gulfport’s city clerk, Lesley DeMuth tells us that Gulfport city council's adopted rules of procedure “provides that items may be removed from the consent agenda by a motion, second, and majority vote of the city council.”
