Gulfport Council Race is On

Four Gulfport residents will compete for two seats on the city council.
Ward One, currently represented by David Hastings, has two contenders – councilman Hastings and Dan Liedtke.
Mr. Hastings is an accountant. Mr. Liedtke and his wife own a consulting business. Both contenders live in the Pasadena Yacht and Country Club.
James Perry will run against the Ward Three incumbent, Jennifer Salmon.
Dr. Salmon lists four sources of income on her qualifying paperwork: promoting the arts at Ruth Eckerd Hall, social security, her salary as a councilmember, and Eckerd College. Mr. Perry owns his own business and earns his living as a cabinetmaker and finish carpenter.
Voters in both those districts will choose their representative on Tuesday, March 13. Councilmembers serve two-year terms and earn $7,200 per year.
The Gabber will provide more coverage on the candidates and the issues in the weeks to come.
