Q: What is the status of the mooring field? Has the city abandoned the project?
A: According to Harbormaster Denis Frain, Gulfport’s still pursuing the mooring field. Over the past months the city has engaged in back-and-forth information exchanges. Last week the state sent a request for additional information. This past week, Frain responded. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has three months to respond.
If approved and installed, the mooring field will include 25 moorings. The city will have jurisdiction over the footprint of the mooring field as well as waters adjacent to the borders (up to a certain distance.)
