Q: What was the logic behind the 1992 decision to allow certain businesses downtown and not allow others? Can the current council change that ordinance?
A: “I cannot speak to the city council’s logic in 1992,” City Manager Jim O’Reilly said. “I can, professionally speaking, infer that the city of Gulfport at that time wanted to maintain control of the type or types of businesses that were permitted in the city’s Waterfront Redevelopment District.”
The current council could change what types of businesses and conditional uses the city allows in the Waterfront Redevelopment District.
