Happy Birthday Gulfport!

Happy Birthday Gulfport!

This year's Mullet Toss winners

At Saturday’s birthday bash, kids and grownups alike threw mullet, enjoyed cake and helped Gulfport celebrate its 102nd year. The event, sponsored by the Gulfport Historical Society and the City of Gulfport, also included museum tours, a youth chalk art contest, and an art, craft and collectible sale.

In the annual mullet toss, Gulfport Vice Mayor Sam Henderson lost to local artist Tom Pitzen. Pitzen threw a mullet 65 feet to Henderson’s 55 feet. Robert Hill, Cathy Fisher, and Linda Craig also threw with distinction.

Not to be outdone by his dad, Rylie Pitzen threw a mullet 25 feet, placing third in his age category (ages six – 11). Tayge Belcher placed first with a 40 foot throw, and Ridge Rodriguez placed second with a 30 foot throw.

Paxton Clubb won top honors for his age group (five and under) with a 15 foot throw. Porter Wills placed second with a 10 foot throw.
