Join Paddles Up St. Pete
Do you want to test paddle a kayak, canoe or paddle-board? How about assembling a team of 17 to 25 friends and associates to race a Dragon Boat on the St. Petersburg waterfront? How about seeing a Marine Science Expo? You can do all of this by joining the Paddles Up St. Pete program at St. Petersburg’s Poynter Park at Bayboro Harbor on Saturday, October 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
If you want to enter a Dragon Boat Racing Team, you must preregister by going to www.paddlesupstpete.com, and pronto. If you just want to come out and join the festivities, come out to the park. All necessary directions can be found at www.paddlesupstpete.com
This event is sponsored jointly by the City of St. Petersburg, the City’s Downtown Partnership, Parks & Recreation, U.S. Coast Guard, USFSP and The St. Petersburg Sail and Power Squadron, dedicated to boating education and safety www.boating-stpete.org.
Proceeds from the main event go to various local charities related to marine science and marine resources for Tampa Bay. The race teams are challenged to contribute to the charity of their choice or liking.
It is not a fund raiser for any of the sponsors. But all are anxious to show off St. Petersburg’s national and international expertise in the marine and oceanographic sciences that is all too much a secret, even locally. So load up the family and come out to join the fun on October 6.
