Kids Splash and Dash at Beach Pool

Kids Splash and Dash at Beach Pool

First place winner for the 10 - 12 age group, Austin Kurmay congratulates runner-up Max Thibodeaux after their heat in Sunday’s Splash and Dash Biathlon at the St. Pete Beach Community Center.

Last year St. Pete Beach introduced a new event for kids: the Splash and Dash, a just-for-fun, non-sanctioned run and swim for kids. Kids between 5 and 12 competed in the friendly face off. The event started with a lap around Horan Park and finished with a swim. Kids over 10 swam 75 yards; the 10 - 12 age group swam 50 yards, and competitors 8 and under swam 25 yards.

“It was pretty fun,” Austin Kurmay, a St. Petersburg resident who placed first in the 10 - 12 age group, said. Runner-up Max Thibodeaux, who also lives in St. Petersburg agreed.

The five dollar registration fee included admission to the pool for the post-race “Splash Bash” party.

Over the past year the St. Pete Beach community center enhanced its offerings for families, building on family movie nights in the pool with events like the biathlon.
