Last Weekend for the “Playboy!”
This coming weekend, the Gulfport Community Players will close the first play of their new season on Sunday afternoon, November 18th at the Hickman Theater. They picked an intense Irish drama entitled, “The Playboy of the Western World”, written by J.M. Synge. The play will run through November 18th, with curtain times of Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $15 each and are available at the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce, the Gulfport Casino, the Gulfport Beach Bazaar, at the door, or by calling them at 727-322-0316 for advance sale tickets.
This play is a poetically-written Irish drama from the year 1907. It depicts the life of the “commoner”- the people of the rugged terrains of the County May in Ireland, circa 1800’s. This area is one of wilderness, infertile ground, and poverty and these traits play a large part in the play. The director of the play is Olga Kruse, and she has done a great job with her 12+ member cast, including getting some pretty good Irish accents out of the cast.
Join the Players and your friends for yet another great evening or afternoon of fine live entertainment from the Gulfport Community Players. The Hickman Theater is located at 26th Ave. and Beach Blvd., in Gulfport. There is plenty of free parking available and even a snack bar inside the lobby for your refreshment needs.
