At Gulfport’s sixth annual cancer screening, Dr. James Spencer examines a woman’s arm for suspect moles and other irregularities that could signal the start of skin cancer.
Saturday morning, April 26, South Pinellas locals queued to get checked for varied types of cancer in the Gulfport Walgreens parking lot. The event started several years ago as the brainchild of David Hastings, an oral cancer survivor and advocate. The screening started at 10 a.m. and lasted four hours; during that time, doctors checked people for oral, skin and prostate cancer. The screening also included hearing, vision and diabetes checks.
