Denise Brown prepares to paddle a kayak for the first time in her life. Ms. Brown was one of many novice paddlers who triumphed over their disability to paddle a kayak or go for a sail at St. Petersburg’s “Adaptive Sailing and Kayak Clinic” Saturday.
“It’s going to feel really wobbly,” Corey Kapes, an employee with the city’s therapeutic recreation program, told Ms. Brown before reassuring her. “You’re not going anywhere.”
Any person with a physical disability is welcome, for free, at the city’s adaptive sailing and kayak clinics. This past Saturday’s event took place at the St. Petersburg Sailing Center; a water skiing event for persons with disabilities will take place later this year. Watch the Gabber for details.
