Art Padula, a fixture at any Lion’s Club fry, boil or breakfast, steams the last few pounds of shrimp at Friday night’s shrimp boil. Mr. Padula, president and secretary of the Gulfport Lion’s Club, said the club served about 150 dinners in the first hour. The evening included a 50-50 fundraiser and diners ate boiled shrimp, cole slaw, baked beans, and hush puppies.
Money raised at these events goes towards sight-related programs and building upkeep. Although the Lions lease the land from the city, they own and maintain the building. The Lions always welcome new members and meet at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. You can find them at 4630 Tifton Drive, between Boca Ciega Bay and the Gulfport Municipal Marina.
