St. Pete Beach Bed Tax

Q: How much of the city’s revenue comes from the “bed tax”?

A: State law mandates that the city cannot directly receive bed tax money (taxes on hotel rooms) directly, St. Pete Beach city manager Mike Bonfield says.

“A portion goes to fund the county match for beach nourishment so the city has no cost in those efforts. Otherwise, the main value to the city for the majority of the tax is the promotional budget for the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) to market our area to the world as a tourism destination,” he says.
