St. Pete Beach Police Scheduling

Q: If the city contracts with the Sheriff for police services, who will make decisions about how many police are needed at events like the St. Pete Beach Classic and at other times when the normal number of officers scheduled are insufficient?

A: City Manager Mike Bonfield explained that right now, the city police department works with event organizers to decide how many officers need to work a special event. He says the city would ask that the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) use a similar process and stressed that any determination would be a joint effort between city staff and the Sheriff’s department.

“The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is very familiar with working special events throughout the county,” he adds.
