Q: What’s going on with trash collection on St. Pete Beach? Has WSI reverted to the old schedule?
A: WSI “is still considering” the city’s request to return to the old collection schedule, according to Commissioner Jim Parent.
“We have told WSI to go back to the old trash collection schedule by December 1,” Commissioner Jim Parent says. “As it stands now I think that they will either go back to that schedule or we will put the contract out for bid again.”
The city signed a new contract with WSI which resulted in different collection days and, at first, a few hiccups as residents who had not been contacted tried to figure out when to set out recycling and garbage. As a result, WSI spoke to the commission in October and explained that the difference in days resulted from new routes and fewer trucks on the road.
