Take Advantage of Free Prostate Screening
The J. West Prostate Cancer Foundation will conduct a blood test only prostate cancer screening from 1-3 p.m. Friday, September 20 at the Gulfport Senior Center, 5501 27th Avenue S.
The screening is free of charge and takes less than 20 minutes to complete. “Persons tested will receive their results confidentially within two weeks,” explained Michael Calamari, a J. West Foundation board member and organizer of the event.
Prostate Cancer is very treatable if detected early. The free screening takes a small blood sample, which is tested for the presence of a prostate specific antigen. Rising PSA levels are one indicator of the probability of prostate cancer and an indication that further testing, by a physician, might be warranted.
The J. West Prostate Cancer Foundation, a tax-exempt 501 (c) 3 organization, also sponsors the annual 5K Run and Walk through Gulfport each January.
For further information on the screening or the run, scheduled for January 4, 2014, please contact Mike Calamari at 727-638-2389 or firstname.lastname@example.org. To schedule an appointment for the September 20th screening, contact Gail Biron, Senior Center Supervisor, at 727-893-2237 or email@example.com.
