The Beach Club May Operate as Hotel

PASS-A-GRILLE – The Beach Club at Pass-a-Grille received permission to operate as a hotel. Previously zoned as “Residential Office Retail,” this change to a “Community Redevelopment District” allows for some of the same permitted uses (such as housing, shops, dining and office space) but means that the property can not be used as a self-service laundry, social service agency, printing and copying business, daycare center, bar or restaurant with outdoor seating, assisted living facility or school. The owners also cannot place a cell phone tower on the property.

In 2007 the property went from 11 units to 8; this week’s change will not affect how many units the property has.

Citing concerns from the residents, the commission asked the property owners to enforce hours of operation at the pool and not advertise the units for less than a one-week stay.

The pool will close at 10 p.m. during the week and at 11 p.m. on the weekends.

Only Commissioner Bev Garnett voted no; all the other commissioners and the mayor voted for the change.
