The First Friends of the Library: From Library Books to Rummikub

It’s been 73 years since the St. Pete Beach Community Club first organized. The club started in 1939, and they owned a small piece of property and a building at the corner of Blind Pass and 73rd.
The club started a library, which grew in size, and soon they decided to donate their clubhouse and land to the city. In return, the city agreed that the club could forever use city buildings for meetings and events – for free.
Today the club hosts an annual card and game party and a yard sale. The meetings, open to members only, also has silent auctions, speakers and covered lunches. The St. Pete Beach Community Club donates the proceeds from its events to Support Our Troops, DARE, the St. Pete Beach fire department’s stuffed animal for kids program, and the women’s free clinic in downtown St. Pete.
The club welcomes all members; membership costs $10 per year. Call Marie Friszolowski at 360-8216.
