Sam Henderson has qualified to run for mayor

As of Friday afternoon, Gulfport's current Vice Mayor/Ward Four Councilman Sam Henderson and former Vice Mayor/ Ward Three Councilmember Bob Worthington have qualified in the upcoming elections. Jim Greenwald, a former Ward Two challenger, has declared his intention to run for mayor but has yet to qualify. To qualify, candidates must submit the appropriate paperwork, filing fees and petition cards.  Greenwald declared his candidacy but has yet to turn in paperwork, petition cards, and a fee.

Two-time Ward Two challenger and local schoolteacher Christine Brown also qualified as a candidate this afternoon, as did newcomer candidate for Ward Four Michael Fridovich. Fomer Ward Four councilmember Mary Stull declared her intention to run for Ward Four but, like Mr. Greenwald, has yet to submit all the appropriate paperwork. Once they do so, both will also qualify as candidates as well. Current Ward Two Councilwoman and local restaurateur Barbara Banno told the Gabber she also plans to submit her paperwork for the Ward Two race.

Candidates have until noon on Monday to submit their signed petition cards, qualifying paperwork and filing fees. By Monday afternoon City Clerk Lesley DeMuth will qualify the hopefuls that afternoon. The Gabber will update this story online as we learn of candidates qualifying as well as one final update shortly after noon on December 10, once the qualifying period closes.
