Q: With the new revelation about shortening yellow lights at stop lights with traffic cameras, has any of Gulfport's lights been adjusted to obtain more revenue? Does the PD or anyone in our City have the ability to alter the way that the lights function?
A: No, according to Gulfport city manager Jim O’Reilly. Neither the police nor the public works staff can alter traffic lights.
“The city of Gulfport contracts with Pinellas County to maintain the traffic lights within the city,” Mr. O’Reilly told us. “The city cannot alter the way the lights function.”
