ST. PETE BEACH – District Two Commissioner Jim Parent will face an opponent for the first time in his political career. The two-term commissioner ran unopposed in 2009 and again in 2011 but will face challenger Joanne Lentino in the 2013 race.

Both candidates will serve as their own treasurers.

According to treasurer reports on file with the Pinellas Supervisor of Elections, Ms. Lentino once contributed to the “Citizens for Responsible Growth” (CRG). This group challenged the city’s comprehensive plan; several members sued the city, although Ms. Lentino has not. Mr. Parent has no disclosed financial ties to the CRG or the opposing group, Save Our Little Village (SOLV).

Ms. Lentino lives on Boca Ciega Drive; Mr. Parent lives on 55th Avenue. The Gabber will profile each candidate and interview them as the election draws closer. Voters in District Two only will cast their votes for their representative; voters in the other three districts will not vote on the commission race.
