DISTRICT THREE
Brooke Anderson
Ms. Anderson and her husband co-own their Belle Vista home. They purchased it for $372,500 in August 2005. The county property appraiser currently values the home at almost $165,000. They also own a home in Riverview, Florida, valued at $115,000. The Andersons bought the home in 2001 for just under $160,000. She receives income from an ICMA deferred compensation account (a type of employee-contributed pension for government employees) and the Anderson Family Trust. She also lists various stocks, three bank accounts and two IRAs among her intangible personal property. Her statement of financial interest does not include any income from her Riverview home.
Ms. Anderson lists an ownership interest in the “Probate Bulletin” and filed a fictitious name notice with the state on July 18, 2011. On her campaign forms she lists the nature of her involvement with the business as inactive; the state lists her as the sole owner of the fictitious name, with the mail for the Probate Bulletin going to 7217 Gulf Boulevard.
Ms. Anderson’s husband currently has an active lawsuit against the city. In 2011, St. Pete Beach spent $145,000 fighting the lawsuit.
Of note: One of Ms. Anderson’s mailers claims she has “the endorsement of our local police officers.” The Gabber also received a press release with the headline “St. Pete Beach Police Endorse Brooke Anderson.”
The chief of police says this is not true. “The title ‘St. Pete Beach Police Endorse Brooke Anderson’ is misleading,” Chief David Romine told the Gabber. “St. Pete Beach Police is a unit / department of the city of St. Pete Beach and as such does not endorse candidates for political office.”
The endorsement comes from the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the collective bargaining unit, or union, with lodges representing several law enforcement agencies. The city is currently involved in negotiations with the FOP over the $22M pension deficit.
