An historic postcard from the Gulfport Historical Society's collection.
If you missed the June porch party at the Gulfport History Museum, don’t worry – they have plenty of other chances for everyone to get together. Coming up next is a workshop on Friday, July 26. The workshop, which will start at 6:30, will take some of the fabulous ideas from the porch party and start to make them real. This is your chance to become a working part of Gulfport’s history.
Thanks in no small part to the suggestions made at the porch party, the Gulfport Historical Society board decided to overhaul the annual birthday bash with a day and a nighttime event. The daytime event will include the traditional birthday celebration – with new events – while the nighttime celebration will offer a different type of party for the city.
At the workshop, the board will look for people to help with both events. Even if you can only give an hour of your time to the birthday bash, please make plans to join the Gulfport Historical Society for the workshop. As President Miki Vaughan reminded everyone at the porch party, the museum belongs to the people of Gulfport and the Society wants to know what the people want to see at their museum, so please give the Society your input on their new Facebook page or via e-mail.
Please “like” the Gulfport Historical Society’s new Facebook page at Facebook.com/GulfportHistoricalSociety to learn of upcoming events and opportunities.
The Museum docents do not keep regular hours in the summer; however, come September the museum will open with new hours that will make history more accessible to people who work during the day. Hours will include ArtWalk, the Tuesday market, and expanded Saturday hours.
As always, the Society welcomes all members. Please contact the Society on Facebook or at email@example.com for more information.
