Young Artists Featured in Performance
The Sunsation Show Chorus will present the first winners of its “Young Artist” Talent Search at their concert on November 18. Sarah Hageman, a senior majoring in vocal performance at the University of South Florida, and Lisa Lam, a pianist from Boca Ciega High School, will perform with the Sunsation Show Chorus’s concert, “Encore!” this Sunday. That concert will be given at the Pinellas Park Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m. Miss Lam will play an evocative piece written by a contemporary Korean composer, while Miss Hageman will perform a song from My Fair Lady.
Miss Hageman, a lyric soprano, has studied voice for seven years and is currently the student of Dr. Warren Jaworski. In addition to singing in USF’s elite Chamber Singers, she has sung several opera roles, including the mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors and covering the role of Fiordiligi in Così Fan Tutte. During the two years she spent at St. Petersburg College, she was soprano soloist in their performances of Mendelsohn’s Elijah and Mozart’s Laudate Dominum. Sarah is also active in her community, co-directing three children’s summer musical theater work shops. In addition spent considerable time this fall canvassing voters, putting in 18 hours of work on Election Day.
Miss Lam, 14 and a Freshman, is a straight-A student. She has studied piano for seven years with Melanie McWilliams and played the clarinet through middle school. She reports that while music is her major interest, she also values the time she has to hang out with her friends. She hopes to become a pediatrician some day.
Auditions are ongoing for the Chorus’ performances at Pinellas Park Performing Arts Center on February 10 and April 14, so instructors who think they may have a candidate among their middle, high or college students should contact Don Kuzmickas, President of Sunsation Show chorus, at 727-579-9089.
